While there are clearly so many vital issues that governments and the private sector need to deal with these days, the recent landing of the Mars Rover reminds us not to forget about the importance of space exploration. Here’s a short piece I wrote about that for Yahoo! Voices.
Of course it would end this way. Of course Newt Gingrich would drop out of the Republican presidential nomination process without really dropping out. He’s still campaigning in North Carolina despite having dropped out of the race on Wednesday (or at least saying that he’d drop out next week). Typical Newt.
I guess Senegal’s Abdoulaye Wade didn’t think that he’d live this long and have to change the constitution so that he could run for president for a third term. But if you’re an African leader it’s not really a very difficult thing to do, there’s a lot of precedence for it.
Anyway, here’s another sad story about the horrible political leadership on the African continent. But things just might be changing, who knows?
Honestly, I don’t dislike Ron Paul. I actually think that a lot of what he says makes sense. But, let’s face it, he’s not going to win the nomination…or even come close to winning the nomination. Despite all of this talk about the caucus states and how polls don’t matter because his supporters don’t do polls or lie if they do.
Anyway, this is the basis for what I say in this article. I hope you’ll check it out and let me know what you think.
The thing that strikes me about the pirate situation off the Horn of Africa is how little discussion there is by the powers that be about the actual causes behind this ridiculousness. Sure, the United States and countries in Europe and Asia and elsewhere talk about defending shipping lanes and things like that, but the very reason why there are thousands of Somali pirates getting millions upon millions of dollars of ransom money from Western companies and nations is due to the fact that Somalia HAS NO GOVERNMENT. And Somalia has not had a government for over twenty years! Perhaps it would help if more people knew about that?? Perhaps there would be more pressure on the world powers to fix this underlying situation???
Anyway, I write about this topic in this short article here. Check it out and let me know your thoughts if you’re so inclined.
So, it looks like Newt might be down for the count…or is he? Let me know what you think.
This is something that has bothered me lately: Traditionally lefty Hollywood-types who glom on to Ron Paul’s ‘stop-the-wars-corporate-greed’ message and neglect to recognize all of the other things that he’s against (environmental protection, a women’s right to choose, progressive racial policies, etc.)
Oliver Stone put me over the top….check it out if you want to read more.
